What this service is — and is not
IsItLicensed is an information service. The data we show comes from public records and may be out of date or incomplete. It is not legal, financial, hiring, or insurance advice, and it is not a substitute for verifying a contractor directly with the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB). Always confirm against the official record before you act.
You may not use this site for FCRA-covered decisions
IsItLicensed (Harper AI, Inc.) is NOT a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. You may not use this site, its data, or any report from it — in whole or in part — as a factor in establishing a person’s eligibility for:
- employment, promotion, reassignment, or retention;
- renting or leasing a dwelling (tenant screening);
- credit or insurance;
- a government license or benefit; or
- any other purpose covered by the FCRA (see 15 U.S.C. § 1681b).
The data is intended to help a homeowner verify a contractor before hiring them for a home improvement project, and to help businesses monitor the public license status of vendors they already work with. It is not a background-check or screening product.
Acceptable use
- No scraping, reverse-engineering, or bulk extraction beyond our published API terms.
- No using contractor data for unlawful telemarketing, spam, or harassment.
- No reselling or redistributing our compiled data except as a permitted API customer.
- No using the data to re-identify, append, or publish information the CSLB withholds.
Disclaimer of warranties
The site and all data are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. The California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) and the State of California make no guarantees about the underlying records, and neither do we.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, IsItLicensed (Harper AI, Inc.) is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or reliance on the data. Your sole remedy is to stop using the site.
Correcting the record
If you are a contractor and believe a record we display is inaccurate, use our dispute & correction process. We never charge anyone a fee to remove, correct, or modify a listing.
